Glen Eden Daycare Centre

Glen Eden Centre – Daycare Glen Eden

The Glen Eden centre is centrally located and children have easy access to community resources. The centre has a newly furnished outdoor area providing plenty of challenges and opportunities for children to explore including a beautiful stream with a pump that runs off rain water, sensory herbs and landscaped planting, a beautiful stained glass fence window for children to look outside, and a deck area for use in the wet weather. The outdoor area is huge with a large sandpit, plenty of outdoor equipment for physical activities, and a long spiraling ramp for wheeled activities. Children’s artwork, their photos, plants and mirrors, are used to decorate the interior of the centre to create a homely and aesthetically pleasing environment.

Quality Early Childhood Education

Our Kids is a small and homely all-day mixed aged centre providing quality care and education for children aged between 6 months and 5 years. Our teachers create respectful and caring relationships with the children while maintaining close relationships with their family/whānau. The centre has been renovated with new facilities, and is continuously well resourced.

Gardening and nature is an important part of our centre culture. The children are very involved in all processes of gardening and learning about nature. Teachers take children on nature walk experiences and for visits to the local garden and orchard. The teachers and children are often seen out and about in our local community as we frequently visit the library and shops. We feel it is important for children to be part of their community and learn about real-life experiences of their environment.

On-site Cook Catering for all Diets

Our resident cook provides for morning, lunch and afternoon food breaks taking into consideration nutritional guidelines, and any special dietary requirements such as allergies. Our Kids teachers encourage positive attitudes in children to support healthy food choices and have created a three week cycle menu in collaboration with families and in-sync with the NZ Heart Foundation’s guidelines.

Glen Eden Staff

Emma Parangi

Head Teacher

I have been teaching for over ten years around Aotearoa, as well as for two years in the UK. As an educator I am always learning, so I have pursued further study options during that time. I completed my Masters in Education this year, focussing on cultural identity development. This kaupapa reflects my passion for creating a learning community which embraces, uplifts and celebrates the cultures present in it.

My heritage as Māori and NZ Pākehā, is an important part of my own cultural identity. This informs my belief in working towards an authentic bicultural learning environment fro tamariki, whānau and kaiako, through culturally inclusive and responsive teaching and learning.

I love the unique mixed age setting of Our Kids as it promotes whānaungatanga for each member of our community. Our tamariki practice manaakitanga each day as they share learning experiences with peers of different ages.

I value autonomy for young children and believe my job as an educator is to support them as they grow and develop into lifelong learners with a strong sense of who they are and how they fit into the world. I am looking forward to building connections with the Glen Eden community to create meaningful learning opportunities to support this growth for our tamariki.

Laura Price

Assistant Head Teacher

I grew up in Auckland and when I was 19 moved to Wellington where I met my husband. Now, 17 years later, I have moved back to Auckland, married with two beautiful boys. My eldest son James is at Oratia primary and my younger son Luke, who is two, comes to work with me every day at Our Kids!

I believe as teachers our job is to work in partnership with whānau to make the early years fun and exciting in learning environments where children can feel safe, create meaningful relationships with others and to develop as competent and confident learners.

For as long as I can remember I’ve always wanted to work with young children and their families/whānau. I endeavour to be the best teacher possible and have come to realise that I’m a life long learner myself and by working alongside children and other staff, ensures that my own learning is also life long.
