Our centre features two dedicated rooms tailored to different age groups:
The Nest
Designed for children under 2 years old, accommodating up to 18 children. This nurturing space provides a secure and stimulating environment where our youngest learners can thrive under the gentle care of our dedicated educators.
The Hive
Catering to children aged 2 to 5 years old, accommodating up to 52 children. This dynamic and engaging space encourages exploration, creativity, and collaborative learning among our older children, fostering independence and social development.
Quality Education and Care
for Preschool Children
At Our Kids Onehunga, we aim to ignite wonder and creativity in children, positively influencing their entire lives. Our environment is considered an important teacher, intentionally encouraging curiosity and discovery, and extending children’s dispositional learning. We provide a balance of open-ended and teacher-led experiences, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Developing and maintaining trusting relationships with whānau (families) and children is fundamental to our philosophy. We respect and value parent-teacher partnerships in planning for children's learning and development, recognising that collaboration with families enriches each child's experience. By building open and positive relationships, we create a home away from home for children in our early childhood educational community. These warm, trusting, and loving partnerships form the backbone for children’s learning, supporting each child’s sense of mana whenua (belonging).
Our learning spaces are thoughtfully designed, viewing the environment as the third teacher. We offer stimulating materials and resources that encourage exploration, creativity, and critical thinking. By creating an inviting and dynamic environment, we inspire children to engage deeply with their learning and follow their interests.
Celebrating Multiculturalism and Honouring Biculturalism
We are proud to celebrate our multicultural community and honour biculturalism. By weaving Te Ao Māori into our daily practice and embracing the diverse cultures represented in our centre, we enrich our learning environment and foster a sense of unity among our tamariki (children). This inclusive approach helps children develop respect and appreciation for different cultures.
Mixed-Age Learning – The Principle of Ako
Our centre embraces mixed-age learning, reflecting the principle of Ako, where teaching and learning are reciprocal processes. Kindness and respect are at the core of this practice, nurturing a caring environment where children learn to value themselves and others. By modeling respectful interactions and encouraging positive relationships, we help children develop strong social skills and a deep sense of empathy.
Older children develop leadership skills
and empathy by guiding younger peers, fostering a sense of responsibility and confidence.
Younger children are inspired
and supported by their older friends, promoting learning through observation and imitation.
All children benefit
from a family-like atmosphere that enhances social development and creates a cohesive community within our centre.

Centre Manager
Our Kids Onehunga
Kia Ora, Namaste! My name is Arti. Originally from India, I call New Zealand my second home. Born and raised in a multicultural and multilingual family, understanding and respect for different cultures come naturally to me. I am a mum to two gorgeous boys, aged 10 and 3 years old.
With over 14 years of experience in early childhood, working alongside children, some fabulous teachers, and amazing families, my passion for teaching has grown stronger and deeper. I have inherited the love for my profession from my mum, who has been my role model all my life. She is an absolutely fabulous teacher with so much passion and dedication towards young children’s growth and development. I am a strong advocate for children’s rights and feel it is my duty as their kaiako (teacher) to protect and nurture those who can’t fight for themselves.
I believe that building and maintaining strong relationships with children and their whānau is the key to children’s learning. Children feel safe and comfortable when these relationships are strong, honest, and open, which sets them up to achieve success within their environment and the wider world.
I am excited to meet with you all and begin my beautiful journey of teaching and learning here at Our Kids.
Collective Care in
Our Nest Space
We provide collective care in The Nest, our area dedicated to infants and toddlers. This approach emphasises the importance of consistent, nurturing relationships and a secure environment where our youngest children can thrive. Collective care allows for greater flexibility, shared learning experiences, and stronger bonds among children and educators. We believe this model offers numerous benefits for children's social and emotional development.
Excursions and
Community Engagement
Excursions are a significant part of our curriculum. We believe that connecting with the wider community enriches children's learning experiences. Regular outings allow children to explore new environments, encounter diverse perspectives, and develop a sense of belonging within their community. Through these experiences, children build confidence, curiosity, and an understanding of the world around them.
