What We Offer
Meet Our Centre Manager
Brooke MacClure
Centre Manager
Our Kids Mataki Way
Kia Ora, my name is Brooke, and I am the Centre Manager for Our Kids Mataki Way.
I have been working in Early Childhood since 2007. I hold a Graduate Diploma of Teaching (ECE) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Early Intervention. I have worked in a range of settings in the early childhood sector—from daycare to home-based education and kindergarten.
I teach from the heart and give 100% in all that I do. I believe that when our tamariki (children), fellow kaiako (teachers), and whānau (families) are treated with kindness and compassion, meaningful relationships develop. The strength of these relationships grounds us in a space that enables us to explore, to fly, and let our true selves shine.
I am committed to leading our wonderful team of passionate early childhood educators and working collaboratively to promote rich and meaningful learning opportunities for our tamariki.
Purpose-Built
Sustainable Design
Our purpose-built centre reflects our educational philosophy and dedication to environmental responsibility. Designed in collaboration with skilled architects, the contemporary facility boasts strong architectural forms and an engaging façade that give it a prominent presence in the community. Large windows and open-plan areas offer expansive views of the Waitākere Ranges and surrounding native trees, seamlessly integrating indoor and outdoor environments and bringing nature into the classroom.
Sustainability is at the heart of our centre's design. We have incorporated several eco-friendly features to reduce our environmental footprint and teach children the importance of caring for the planet. Solar panels installed on the roof harness renewable energy, reducing our reliance on non-renewable resources and minimising greenhouse gas emissions. The building maximises natural light and ventilation, reducing the need for artificial lighting and air conditioning, while double glazing helps maintain comfortable indoor temperatures and conserves energy.
Environmentally friendly materials have been used throughout construction and finishes, including natural claddings and recycled products. Sustainable lighting made from recycled PET bottles emphasises our dedication to environmental responsibility.
By integrating these sustainable features into the centre's design, we provide daily opportunities for children to learn about environmental stewardship, observe sustainability in action, and engage in conversations about caring for the Earth.
Inspiring Indoor and Outdoor Spaces
The interior spaces are carefully crafted to cultivate children's curiosity and comfort within a respectful and homely atmosphere. The furnishings and décor incorporate the rich autumn colours of the Waitākere region, creating a harmonious and inviting ambiance. Walls adorned with historical photographs of Glen Eden help children connect with the local heritage, fostering a sense of belonging. Artistic touches, such as paintings by renowned artist Sofia Minson, represent biculturalism and our educational philosophy.
Our stunning outdoor area is designed to ignite children's imagination and encourage exploration. We have planted trees that, as they grow, will provide natural shade and opportunities for children to connect with nature, observing insects and discovering small creatures. Inspired by experiences at Kaiteriteri Beach in Nelson, we have recreated that environment with natural climbing experiences for the young ones and a cave that connects to the sandpit.
Reflecting the history of the Glen Eden area, we've planted fruit trees and a grapevine, reminiscent of the vineyards and orchards that once thrived here. This allows children to experience growing and harvesting their own fruit, deepening their connection to the local heritage.
We are excited to share our purpose-built, eco-friendly centre with the local community, providing a space where children can explore, discover, and develop a lifelong love of learning in harmony with the environment.
