Our Beginnings at Glendene

Our Kids Glendene holds a special place in our history as the very first centre established on August 8, 2008. Founded by Anita Kumar, this centre marked the beginning of Our Kids Early Learning Centres' journey in providing quality early childhood education.

Starting as a small mixed-age centre licensed for 22 children, Anita took on the role of head teacher, embedding the principles of active listening and responding to children's interests and needs from the very start. The vision was to create a nurturing environment where children could thrive, and the Glendene centre became the foundation upon which our philosophy and practices were built.

As a small centre, we maintain strong, personal relationships with parents and whānau.

This close-knit community allows us to communicate openly and collaborate effectively, ensuring that each child's needs are met both at the centre and at home. We believe that partnership with families is essential to support every child's development and well-being.

All-Day Mixed-Age Childcare

At Our Kids Glendene, we provide quality care and education for children aged between 6 months and 5 years in a small, homely, all-day mixed-age setting. Our passionate teachers create respectful and caring relationships with the children while maintaining close connections with their families (whānau). We support the development, well-being, and sense of belonging of all children, including infants and toddlers. Our teachers engage in meaningful interactions and provide ample space and opportunities for free movement and exploration.

Discover the Benefits of Mixed-Age Learning

Our mixed-age environment fosters a sense of community and collaboration among children. By interacting with peers of different ages, children:

Develop Social Skills

Younger children learn from older peers, while older children develop leadership skills and empathy.

Enhance Learning Opportunities

Exposure to a variety of activities and ideas promotes cognitive development.

Build Strong Relationships

Siblings and friends can stay together, creating a family-like atmosphere.

Promote Inclusivity

Reflecting real-world communities helps children adapt to diverse social settings.

Meet Our Centre Manager

Kim Trillo

Centre Manager
Our Kids Glendene

Kia ora whānau.  Kim is the Centre Manager at Our Kids Glendene. Living locally in Te Atatū, she has two children—still her babies even though they're both teenagers! Outside of work, she enjoys spending time at the beach, working out, reading, playing games, and being involved in baseball with her family.

With 24 years of experience in early childhood education in various centres and roles, from teaching to management, Kim loves the fresh outlook that working with children brings. Seeing the world through the eyes of tamariki, following their interests, and offering experiences that deepen their learning is her passion.

She looks forward to meeting everyone and getting to know the children. Please feel free to chat with her anytime—you are always welcome.

Indoor-Outdoor Flow for Holistic Learning

We believe that learning opportunities are found both indoors and outdoors. That's why we've created an early learning environment that carefully balances both.

Indoor Environment

Our indoor spaces are thoughtfully designed to provide a calm and nurturing atmosphere. Natural materials and open-ended resources encourage children to explore, create, and engage in meaningful play. The environment reflects the children's interests and promotes their cognitive, social, and emotional development.

Outdoor Environment

Our outdoor area at Our Kids Glendene offers abundant opportunities for children to discover and enjoy the natural world. The spacious outdoor setting is designed to inspire curiosity and encourage physical activity. Children can engage in imaginative play, explore natural elements like water and plants, and develop their gross motor skills through various physical challenges. The outdoor environment fosters a connection with nature, promoting environmental awareness and a sense of wonder.

Serving Our Community
with Care

At Our Kids Glendene, we are deeply connected to the local community we serve.

Our longstanding team of educators, many of whom are from the area, understand the unique needs and values of our families (whānau). They have built strong, trusting relationships over the years, providing consistent support and a welcoming environment for all.

Our teachers are dedicated to offering individualised care, recognising and nurturing the potential in every child. By embracing the diversity of our community, they create inclusive learning experiences that cater to each child's interests and needs. Their passion and commitment ensure that all children feel valued and supported in their learning journey.

Promoting Healthy Eating with Lunchboxes

At Our Kids Glendene, we believe in fostering independence and healthy eating habits. While we do not have an on-site cook, this provides a valuable opportunity to engage children and families in making nutritious food choices.

Bringing a lunchbox to Our Kids Glendene offers numerous benefits for your child. It supports our older tuakana (older children) in their transition to school by familiarising them with managing their own meals, as they will need to do in a school setting. For all our tamariki (children), it encourages independence and self-regulation as they learn to make choices about what and how much to eat from their lunchboxes. This approach allows parents and whānau to have greater insight into their child's eating habits, ensuring that children are offered food they enjoy and that meets their dietary needs. Additionally, packing lunchboxes becomes a valuable learning experience, teaching children about nutrition, food preparation, and responsibility.
