Quality Early
Childhood Education

At Our Kids Glen Eden, we are dedicated to providing quality early childhood education in a nurturing, mixed-age environment. Our experienced teachers build respectful and caring relationships with each child, fostering a sense of security and belonging.

As a small centre, we maintain strong, personal relationships with parents and whānau.

This close-knit community allows us to communicate openly and collaborate effectively, ensuring that each child's needs are met both at the centre and at home. We believe that partnership with families is essential to support every child's development and well-being.

Our mixed-age setting offers unique benefits:

Family-Like Atmosphere

Siblings can stay together, and children of different ages learn from one another.

Peer Learning

Younger children are inspired by older peers, while older children develop leadership skills by mentoring the younger ones.

Individualised Attention

Our teachers observe and respond to each child's unique needs and interests, ensuring personalised care and education.

We continuously update our facilities and resources to provide the best learning environment, where children can explore, discover, and grow.

Meet Our Centre Manager

Katerina Longo

Centre Manager
Our Kids Glen Eden

Kia ora, my name is Kate, and I am the manager at Our Kids Glen Eden. I have been working with the wonderful Our Kids team since 2019 and have 15 years of experience in the early childhood sector. I hold a Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education.

I have a calm and caring approach towards tamariki, and building whānaungatanga (relationships) with whānau and tamariki is extremely important to me. I have a deep respect for our people of the future and nurture children with aroha (love) and patience so they feel secure enough to blossom and develop into strong, capable learners.

After having my own child in 2017, my passion and commitment to the early years have deepened even further, which helps me relate to and understand the beautiful and sometimes challenging parts of parenting. I am dedicated to helping young tamariki grow emotional, social, and developmental skills to promote their overall well-being.

I lead our kaiako (teachers) with a kind and understanding approach and believe the well-being of our teachers is extremely important so they feel supported to give our tamariki their full potential.

Here at Our Kids Glen Eden, our team is passionate and works well together to ensure that we have an understanding and respect of Te Ao Māori and te taiao (the environment). This is something I continue to be inspired by and learn more about.

Embracing Nature
and Community

At Our Kids Glen Eden, we believe that engaging with nature and the community is vital for children's holistic development. Our proximity to local landmarks like Waikumete Stream and the Glen Eden Library allows us to integrate real-world experiences into our curriculum.

Our children are actively involved in gardening and nature exploration. They participate in all aspects of gardening—from planting seeds to harvesting vegetables—fostering a connection with the environment and an understanding of sustainability. Teachers and children often embark on nature walks, visiting local gardens and orchards, where they can observe and learn about the natural world firsthand.

Community engagement is a cornerstone of our philosophy. We regularly visit the local library and shops, allowing children to become familiar with their neighbourhood and develop a sense of belonging. By interacting with community members and exploring local resources, children gain practical life skills and an appreciation for their surroundings.

One of our teachers beautifully captured our commitment to community in her blog article: Tūrangawaewae – Our Place, Our Community

Celebrating Biculturalism and Cultural Diversity

At Our Kids Glen Eden, we are committed to embracing Te Ao Māori (the Māori world) and promoting a bicultural environment that honors the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi. Our teachers incorporate Māori language (te reo Māori) and cultural practices into daily activities, fostering an environment of respect and understanding.

We celebrate significant events like Matariki (the Māori New Year), engaging children in storytelling, art, and activities that highlight Māori traditions and values. Our journey through Matariki has been a profound experience, enriching our centre's culture and deepening our connection to the community.

In addition to embracing biculturalism, we celebrate the diverse cultures represented in our centre. We observe Pacific Language Weeks, where children and teachers explore the languages, stories, music, and food of Pacific nations. By engaging in cooking and sharing meals from different cultures, children develop a broader understanding of the world and learn to appreciate the rich tapestry of our community.

Our commitment to cultural diversity ensures that every child feels seen, heard, and valued, strengthening their sense of identity and belonging.

Nutritious Meals Catered for All Diets

We understand the importance of proper nutrition in supporting children's growth and development. Our on-site cook prepares delicious and healthy meals, including morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea. We adhere to nutritional guidelines and collaborate with families to create a four-week cycle menu that aligns with the NZ Heart Foundation’s guidelines.

We accommodate special dietary requirements, such as allergies and cultural preferences, ensuring that every child can enjoy our meals safely. Our teachers encourage positive attitudes toward healthy food choices, involving children in discussions about nutrition and even incorporating cooking activities into our curriculum.
