I have been involved in the early childhood education sector for 8 years and graduated with my bachelor degree in early childhood education in 2014. I am married with two sons and am a Glen Eden local. I am passionate about our community and the teachers and children at Our Kids are often seen out walking to the library, shops and going on nature walks around the area. Children are my passion and every day brings exciting new challenges, adventures, learning and fun.
I see children as unique, capable and competent learners. I am an advocate for children learning through play which is vital for children’s development and believe that children are more inspired when they are engaged in experiences that are of interest to them. As educators it is our role to plan opportunities that follow the children’s interests for children to be engaged and involved in their learning process.
Equally important to me is forming quality relationships with both children and their families. Building working partnerships with families helps us to strengthen relationships (whanaungatanga) and support children’s well-being. I am dedicated to ensure all children are supported and experience an inclusive, warm and fun environment where they have a sense of belonging, feel safe and loved.
Assistant Head Teacher
I grew up in Auckland and when I was 19 moved to Wellington where I met my husband. Now, 17 years later, I have moved back to Auckland, married with two beautiful boys. My eldest son James is at Oratia primary and my younger son Luke, who is two, comes to work with me every day at Our Kids!
I believe as teachers our job is to work in partnership with whānau to make the early years fun and exciting in learning environments where children can feel safe, create meaningful relationships with others and to develop as competent and confident learners.
For as long as I can remember I’ve always wanted to work with young children and their families/whānau. I endeavour to be the best teacher possible and have come to realise that I’m a life long learner myself and by working alongside children and other staff, ensures that my own learning is also life long.
